I currently serve as the Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction for the Somers Point School District. In addition, I am the Principal of the New York Avenue School. In this role, I am responsible for overseeing all academic subjects at all levels (Pre-K – 8), planning and executing professional development opportunities for professional and support staff, and overseeing federal programs and the district assessment schedule. I manage these varied responsibilities by building, nurturing and sustaining collaborative working relationships with teachers, PLC facilitators, support staff members, Board members and administrative colleagues.
Before coming to Somers Point, I was a teacher for twenty years and held other administrative positions (Curriculum Coordinator; Supervisor of Pre-K – 3, State and Federal Programs; Supervisor of Special Education). Over the course of my career, I am thankful to have been given the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, as well as in Pre-K – 8, Pre-K – 12, and 7 – 12 school districts. In 2007, I completed my Master’s degree in Education Leadership, Management and Policy at Seton Hall University.
I am passionate about high-quality professional development and enjoy learning with colleagues. As a former member of the New Jersey Professional Teaching Standards Board, I had the unique opportunity to engage with teachers and administrators from districts across New Jersey on the topic of quality, job-embedded professional learning. As a member of the LFNJ Board, I am excited to have the opportunity to get to know other colleagues in New Jersey and support their continuous professional growth.
The person who influenced me most with regard to professional learning is Steve Barkley of PLS 3rd Learning. I have had frequent opportunities over the past few years to work with and learn from Steve Barkley, and have been affected by his passionate commitment to intentional, focused professional learning communities and the power of effective feedback for learners of all ages.
